Third Class enjoyed a fantastic trip today to the newly renovated Ernest Shackleton Museum in Athy.
The children were buzzing with excitement as they explored the impressive multi-million-euro redevelopment and were in absolute awe of the exhibits.
Throughout this month, the class has been studying Antarctica and famous Antarctic explorers across the curriculum, so seeing real artefacts connected to Shackleton brought their learning to life in a truly meaningful way.
A special highlight of the visit was meeting Ulf Bakke, the man who donated Shackleton’s cabin to the museum. Visiting all the way from Norway with his wife, he spoke with the children, who expressed their gratitude for his remarkable donation and the opportunity to see the cabin up close.
We extend our sincere thanks to the staff of the Shackleton Museum for their warm hospitality and informative tour.
Thank you also to Ms. Cummins and Mrs. Bond for helping to organise such a memorable outing.
It was a wonderful day. One we are sure the children will never forget.
